What is SHRM-CP?

SHRM-CP stands for Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional. It is a certification exam offered by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which is the world's largest HR professional society.

The SHRM-CP exam is designed to test the knowledge and skills of HR professionals in a variety of areas, including HR competencies, people, organization, workplace and strategy. The exam consists of 160 multiple-choice questions, and covers a range of topics such as HR operations, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, employee engagement, and legal and ethical considerations.

The SHRM-CP certification is widely recognized in the HR industry, and can be a valuable credential for HR professionals looking to advance their careers or demonstrate their expertise in the field. To be eligible to take the SHRM-CP exam, candidates must meet certain education and work experience requirements.

SHRM-CP exam conditions

To be eligible to take the SHRM-CP exam, candidates must meet certain conditions related to their education and work experience.

Education requirements:

For candidates with a bachelor's degree, a minimum of three years of HR-related experience is required.

For candidates without a bachelor's degree, a minimum of four years of HR-related experience is required.

ALL the topics:

The SHRM-CP exam covers a range of topics related to human resource management. The exam is divided into two main categories: HR Competencies and Functional Areas. Here is a breakdown of the topics covered under each category:

Functional Areas:

Technology Management

Each of these topics includes sub-topics that are further broken down into specific knowledge, skills, and abilities that HR professionals should possess. The questions on the SHRM-CP exam are designed to assess a candidate's knowledge and skills in these areas.

SHRM-CP exam passing score

The passing score for the SHRM-CP exam is not a fixed number. It varies from one exam administration to another and is determined using a statistical method called equating. Equating is a process that ensures that the difficulty of the exam is consistent across different administrations, so that candidates are not advantaged or disadvantaged based on the specific set of questions they receive.

Because the passing score is determined using equating, it is not possible to know the exact score that is needed to pass the exam. However, SHRM has provided some information about the scoring process. According to SHRM, the passing rate for the SHRM-CP exam is typically around 70%. This means that candidates who score at or above the 70th percentile are likely to pass the exam.

It's worth noting that the SHRM-CP exam is designed to be challenging, and candidates should prepare thoroughly to increase their chances of passing. SHRM provides a variety of resources to help candidates prepare for the exam, including study materials, online courses, and test-taking tips.
