The HR Model: Training and Development
Human Resource Management is about the formal systems designed to manage people in an organization. It is made up of eight functional areas of human resource work. Let’s explore training and development, first by defining these two important terms. Training is the development and delivery of information people will use in their jobs. On the other hand, development refers to experiences that make people better. ADDIE is an instructional systems design framework that many instructional designers and training developers use to develop courses. The name is an acronym for the five phases it defines for building training and performance support tools, let’s take a look. Analysis In analysis, needs and objectives are identified. An effective training session depends on the trainer knowing what is required for the individual, the department and the organization as a whole. Design In design, learning objectives, session structure and resources are identified. Instructional designers have a vast number of options for approaching and developing training. In design, trainers develop learning objectives to focus on what you want participants to be able to do as a result of training, your learner’s after training behaviors. Development Development is about preparing content for the training session is completed. During this phase, content for the training session is completed. A course plan and all presentation materials are developed consistent with the training design. A training course plan is an organized description of the activities and resources you'll use to facilitate a training session. The course plan serves as a trainer’s go-to resource for successful delivery of training content. Implementation Implementation is the preparation and delivery of the training content. Facilitation skills are the key to participant engagement. Active participation in the learning process ensures that participants gain and retain the most information from training. Training aids enhance learning because they enable the instructor to create an interesting visual or audio focus for participants. Consider including both an in-session visual aid such as slides or posters, as well as a takeaway such as a handout or workbook. Evaluation Evaluation ensures all stated goals of the learning process will meet the specified needs. Training should be evaluated so you can make improvements and confirm whether your process was effective. Your evaluation data will help you confirm how well the training met your objectives and engaged participants. A course or session training evaluation should be conducted before participants leave the classroom, so the information is fresh. Enjoy learning more about training and development.
